Description

Petroleum hydrocarbon resin (CAS 68527-25-3) is a thermoplastic polymer produced from steam-cracked aromatic and aliphatic petroleum fractions, including piperylene concentrates. It functions as a tackifier, compatibilizer, and rheology modifier across adhesive, rubber, and coating systems.

In hot-melt and pressure-sensitive adhesives, it boosts tack and peel strength, directly influencing bond performance in packaging tapes, labels, and assembly applications. Rubber compounders incorporate it to improve processability and reinforce green strength.

This material is essential for tire treads, belts, and molded goods. In solvent-borne and waterborne coatings, it modifies viscosity and film-forming behavior, helping formulators hit target application and leveling profiles for industrial use.

Sealant and elastomer manufacturers use it to control flow and extend open time in construction and automotive sealing compounds. It provides the necessary stability and adhesion required for high-performance industrial bonding solutions.

Petroleum hydrocarbon resin is supplied as solid flakes, pellets, or pastilles, with softening point grades typically ranging from 80°C to 140°C to suit different processing windows. This allows for flexibility in various manufacturing environments.

Technical-grade material is the standard market offering, with specifications varying by aromatic content, color (Gardner scale), and molecular weight distribution. These parameters ensure the resin meets specific performance criteria for end-users.

Bulk and bagged formats are both commercially available to support large-scale industrial procurement. This ensures that chemical distributors and manufacturers can maintain consistent supply chains for their production requirements.
