Hydrogenated polyisobutene
Description
Hydrogenated polyisobutene (CAS 68937-10-0) is a fully saturated synthetic hydrocarbon polymer produced by hydrogenating polyisobutene to eliminate residual unsaturation. In personal care and industrial markets, it functions as an emollient, plasticizer, and lubricant base.
This material offers oxidative stability that unsaturated alternatives cannot match. In cosmetics and personal care, it is used as a skin-conditioning emollient in lip products, color cosmetics, and skin creams.
Its non-greasy, spreadable texture improves sensory performance and formula stability. Industrial lubricant formulators incorporate it as a base fluid or additive in gear oils, compressor fluids, and metalworking compounds.
Thermal and oxidative resistance are critical to service life in these industrial applications. Adhesive and sealant manufacturers use it as a plasticizer to control tack, flexibility, and low-temperature performance.
It is highly effective in hot-melt and pressure-sensitive systems. In plastics compounding, it acts as a processing aid and softener that improves flexibility without migrating out of the finished part.
Hydrogenated polyisobutene is supplied as a clear to pale yellow viscous liquid. Viscosity grades range from low to high molecular weight to suit different application requirements across various sectors.
Cosmetic-grade material is available meeting standard purity expectations for personal care use. Technical grades serve industrial lubricant and polymer applications where high performance is required.
