Vinylidene fluoride
Description
Vinylidene fluoride (CAS 75-38-7), also known as Halocarbon 1132A, is a gaseous fluorinated monomer used as the primary building block in the production of high-performance fluoropolymers.
It is the key feedstock for polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and a range of fluoroelastomers that require chemical resistance, thermal stability, and durability in demanding environments.
In the plastics and polymer industry, it is polymerized to produce PVDF resin, which is processed into pipes, films, coatings, and membranes for chemical processing and semiconductor applications.
Copolymerization with hexafluoropropylene yields fluoroelastomers such as FKM and Viton-type compounds, used in seals, gaskets, and O-rings for automotive and aerospace assemblies.
Battery manufacturers use PVDF derived from this monomer as a binder material in lithium-ion electrode fabrication. In the rubber and specialty compounding sector, it contributes to fluoroelastomer compounds.
These compounds are engineered for fuel system components and high-temperature hose applications. Vinylidene fluoride is supplied as a liquefied compressed gas in cylinders or bulk containers.
This delivery method is consistent with its handling requirements as a low-boiling gaseous monomer. It is available in polymerization-grade purity, with specifications controlled for inhibitor content.
Moisture levels are also strictly monitored, as they are critical to downstream fluoropolymer production. Our material meets rigorous industrial quality standards for consistent chemical manufacturing.
