Description

Ammonium persulfate (CAS 7727-54-0), also known as APS and approved as E923, is a strong inorganic oxidizer used across polymer manufacturing, electronics processing, and surface treatment industries.

Its high oxidizing potential makes it effective as a polymerization initiator, bleaching agent, and etchant across a broad range of industrial processes. In plastics and polymer production, APS initiates free-radical polymerization.

It is used for acrylic, styrene, and vinyl-based monomers, forming the backbone of emulsion and suspension polymerization systems. Printed circuit board manufacturers rely on it as a microetchant to clean copper surfaces.

This process ensures consistent adhesion in multilayer board fabrication by roughening surfaces before plating. Textile and paper processors use it to bleach natural fibers and pulp, removing color bodies effectively.

The chemical works without degrading substrate integrity during the bleaching process. In water treatment, it functions as an oxidizing agent to break down organic contaminants and support advanced oxidation processes.

Ammonium persulfate is supplied as a white crystalline powder or granules. Standard commercial grades include technical grade for industrial applications and food-grade material meeting specific regulatory requirements.

Purity levels of 98% and above are typical for electronics and polymer-grade supply. The material is handled according to strict safety protocols due to its strong oxidizing properties and reactivity in various environments.
