Description

Potassium persulfate (CAS 7727-21-1), also known by the abbreviation KPS and the food additive designation E922, is an inorganic oxidizing agent used across polymer manufacturing and bleaching operations.

Potassium peroxodisulfate is the preferred IUPAC-aligned term recognized in European technical and regulatory contexts, while Anthion appears in some legacy industrial references for surface treatment processes.

In emulsion and suspension polymerization, KPS acts as a free-radical initiator for producing acrylic, styrene-butadiene, and vinyl acetate-based polymers at controlled reaction temperatures.

Hair bleaching and color formulations in the personal care industry rely on it to activate oxidative lightening without requiring high-temperature processing during the application phase.

Textile and paper producers use it to bleach fibers and pulp, improving whiteness and surface uniformity before dyeing or coating. In water treatment, it functions as an oxidant for organic contaminants.

It also serves as a persulfate-based activator in advanced oxidation processes. Potassium persulfate is supplied as a white crystalline powder or granule for various industrial and commercial uses.

Standard commercial grades include technical grade for industrial polymerization and bleaching, as well as food-grade material conforming to E922 specifications for permitted food applications.

Purity levels typically range from 99% and above for technical and high-purity grades. This ensures consistent performance across sensitive chemical reactions and large-scale manufacturing workflows.
