Potassium bisulfite

Potassium bisulfite (CAS 7773-03-7), also known commercially as E228, is an inorganic sulfite salt used industrially as a preservative, antioxidant, and reducing agent.

Where is Potassium bisulfite used?

• Food and beverage: prevents browning and extends shelf life in wines, fruit juices, and dried foods
• Water treatment: neutralizes residual chlorine in process water and wastewater effluent
• Textile and leather: bleaching and reducing agent in dyebath preparation and hide treatment
• Pharmaceuticals: antioxidant stabilizer in injectable formulations and oral solutions
• It inhibits microbial growth and oxidative degradation.
