Sodium bisulfate
Description
Sodium bisulfate (CAS 7681-38-1), also sold as sodium acid sulfate, is a dry acid used across industrial and food-grade applications to lower pH and adjust acidity. It serves as a reliable replacement for liquid mineral acids in solid handling processes. Its solid form makes it a practical alternative to sulfuric acid where liquid acids present handling or logistics challenges. In food processing, it functions as an acidulant and pH regulator in meat products and potato-based foods.
It is also utilized in dry blends where precise acidity control is required. Water treatment operations use it to reduce alkalinity and adjust pH in pools, municipal systems, and industrial effluent streams for better safety. Metal finishing and mining operations apply it to pickle metal surfaces and dissolve oxide layers. It is also used to condition process water ahead of downstream treatment to ensure optimal chemical reactions and efficiency.
In cleaning formulations, it provides the acidic backbone for descalers, toilet bowl cleaners, and hard surface products. These applications specifically target mineral scale and rust deposits in industrial and domestic settings. Sodium bisulfate is supplied as a dry granule or powder, with granular form preferred for bulk handling. This form helps in reducing dust exposure during dosing and ensures more consistent application in large-scale systems.
Food-grade material is available to FCC specification, supporting direct food contact applications. Technical grade is the standard for industrial cleaning, water treatment, and metal processing end uses across the globe.
