Citronella oil

Citronella oil (CAS 8000-29-1), FEMA 2308, is a natural essential oil steam-distilled from Cymbopogon grasses, traded in two commercial types: Ceylon and Java.

Where is Citronella oil used?

• Personal care: insect repellent sprays and lotions
• Household cleaning: fragrance component and natural biocide in surface sprays, floor cleaners and air fresheners
• Food and beverage: flavoring agent in confectionery, baked goods and beverages at regulated levels
• Industrial: solvent carrier in fragrance concentrates and masking agent in technical cleaning formulations
• Repellent activity against mosquitoes and other insects drives its use in candles and topical products.

Good to know: Java-type and Ceylon-type grades differ in geraniol and citronellal content. Food-grade and cosmetic-grade supply comes with certificates of analysis aligned to FCC and ISO benchmarks.
