o-xylene
Description
O-xylene (CAS 95-47-6), also sold as o-xylol, is an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent and chemical intermediate sourced primarily from catalytic reforming of naphtha. Beyond its solvent function, it serves as the principal feedstock for phthalic anhydride production.
This material represents one of the highest-volume downstream uses in the chemical industry. The dominant industrial outlet is oxidation to phthalic anhydride, which feeds directly into plasticizer and alkyd resin manufacturing at scale.
In coatings and industrial cleaning formulations, o-xylene functions as a high-solvency aromatic carrier for resins, epoxies, and heavy-duty degreasers. It is particularly effective where slower evaporation rates are required for application.
Adhesive and sealant producers use it to dissolve synthetic rubbers and polymer binders during compounding. In oil and gas operations, it appears in specialty solvent blends for pipeline cleaning and hydrocarbon extraction processes.
O-xylene is supplied as a clear liquid in bulk tanker, ISO container, and drum formats. Technical grade is the standard commercial specification, with purity levels typically at 98% or higher for industrial use.
High-purity grades are available for chemical synthesis applications where isomer contamination must be tightly controlled. Our supply chain ensures consistent quality and reliable delivery for large-scale manufacturing requirements.
