Description

Methyl ethyl ketoxime (CAS 96-29-7), commonly known as MEKO or 2-butanone oxime, is an oxime compound used primarily as a skinning inhibitor and anti-skinning agent in solvent-based coatings and alkyd systems. It prevents premature surface oxidation in paints, varnishes, and printing inks during storage and application. In coatings and alkyd paints, MEKO is added at low concentrations to block metal drier activity.

This prevents surface skin formation before the product is applied during container storage. Printing ink manufacturers use it to extend shelf life in oxidatively drying ink systems without compromising cure performance. Once the ink is exposed to air, the drying process proceeds as intended. In silicone sealants and adhesive formulations, MEKO acts as a crosslinker and release agent for various industrial applications.

This enables moisture-cure systems to achieve controlled adhesion profiles. It also functions as a catalyst precursor and intermediate in specialty chemical synthesis for diverse manufacturing sectors. Methyl ethyl ketoxime is supplied as a clear liquid in standard industrial packaging, including drums and IBC containers. Technical grade is the predominant commercial specification for this material.

Purity levels are typically at 99% or above to meet industrial requirements. Bulk supply is available for high-volume coatings and sealant manufacturers, with smaller quantities offered for formulators. R&D procurement teams can also access specialized quantities for testing. The product maintains stability when stored under proper conditions in original sealed containers away from heat.
