Description

Tert-butyl peroxyacetate (CAS 107-71-1), also known as tert-butyl peracetate and sold under the trade name Lupersol 70, is an organic peroxide used as a free-radical source in polymer manufacturing. It delivers controlled radical generation across a defined temperature range, supporting both polymerization initiation and cross-linking processes for various industrial applications.

In plastics and polymer production, it initiates free-radical polymerization of vinyl monomers including styrene, acrylates, and vinyl acetate, enabling consistent molecular weight control. Rubber and tire manufacturers use it as a cross-linking agent to cure elastomers, improving mechanical strength and heat resistance in finished compounds and specialty materials.

It also functions as a co-initiator in high-temperature polymerization systems where precise radical flux is required to meet specific product performance requirements and specifications. Formulators working with polyethylene and specialty resins select it for grafting reactions where other peroxides would decompose too rapidly for the intended chemical process.

Tert-butyl peroxyacetate is supplied as a liquid solution, typically at 75% active concentration in a diluent to reduce handling hazards associated with the pure form. Technical grade is the standard commercial offering, with supply governed by peroxide-specific transport and storage regulations. Packaging ranges from small drums to IBC containers.
