2,6-di-tert-butylphenol
Description
2,6-Di-tert-butylphenol (CAS 128-39-2), commonly referenced as 2,6-DTBP, is a hindered phenolic compound used primarily as an antioxidant, stabilizer, and chemical intermediate across industrial and specialty applications.
It protects materials from oxidative degradation during processing and in finished products, and also serves as a key building block in the synthesis of more complex antioxidant molecules.
In lubricants, fuels, and hydraulic fluids, 2,6-DTBP inhibits oxidation and extends service life under high-temperature operating conditions. Polymer and rubber manufacturers incorporate it during compounding.
This prevents thermal degradation in polyolefins, elastomers, and tire compounds. It functions as a precursor in the production of hindered phenolic antioxidants such as BHT and other derivatives.
These derivatives are used across coatings, adhesives, and packaging materials. In specialty applications, it also acts as a catalyst component and stabilizer in UV-sensitive formulations.
These systems include personal care and printing ink systems. 2,6-Di-tert-butylphenol is supplied as a liquid at ambient temperatures, with purity grades typically ranging from technical to high-purity.
Standard packaging includes drums and IBC containers suited for bulk industrial procurement. Technical and reagent-grade specifications are the most commonly available in the market.
