Lead fluoroborate
Description
Lead fluoroborate (CAS 13814-96-5), also known as lead tetrafluoroborate, is an inorganic lead salt supplied primarily as an aqueous solution for electroplating and metal finishing operations.
It delivers high-solubility lead ion concentrations that support stable, high-speed deposition baths where conventional lead salts would be impractical for industrial use.
In electroplating, it is the primary lead source in fluoborate bath formulations used to deposit lead and lead-tin alloy coatings onto copper, steel, and electronic substrates.
Printed circuit board manufacturers rely on these baths to plate solder-compatible lead-tin finishes on through-holes and surface features during the manufacturing process.
In the electronics sector, it supports the production of bearing overlays and connector coatings where controlled deposit hardness and thickness are critical to performance.
Mining and metallurgical operations use lead fluoborate baths in electrorefining processes to recover and purify lead from various types of mixed-metal feedstocks.
Lead fluoroborate is commercially available as an aqueous solution, typically at concentrations around 50% by weight. It is supplied in technical grade for industrial plating.
Bulk quantities are available in drums and intermediate bulk containers suited to continuous plating line operations and large-scale metal refining facilities worldwide.
