Description

Lead methanesulfonate (CAS 17570-76-2) is a lead salt of methanesulfonic acid used primarily as a soluble lead source in electroplating baths and specialty metal finishing processes. Unlike traditional lead compounds, it offers high solubility in aqueous systems. This high solubility makes it practical for controlled deposition applications in electronics and surface treatment. In electronics manufacturing, it is used in electroplating baths for tin-lead and pure lead deposition onto circuit boards.

It is also utilized for connectors and semiconductor components where precise layer control is required. Metalworking operations use this chemical as an additive in extreme-pressure lubricant formulations for industrial use. In these lubricant applications, it contributes to surface protection under high-load conditions. It also functions as a corrosion inhibitor component in specific industrial fluids where lead-based chemistry is specified for performance.

Automotive parts finishing, particularly for bearing surfaces and bushing coatings, represents another established end-use. This application relies on the chemical for controlled lead deposition required in high-performance parts. The product is supplied as an aqueous solution, with concentration typically expressed as lead content or as a percentage of the salt in solution. Technical grade is the standard commercial specification for these applications.

This grade is suitable for industrial electroplating and metalworking applications across various sectors. Packaging is typically in drums or intermediate bulk containers suited to liquid chemical handling and safe transport.
