Ferrous fumarate

Ferrous fumarate (CAS 141-01-5) is an iron(II) salt used as a bioavailable source of elemental iron. Also marketed as Feostat and Ercoferro.

Where is Ferrous fumarate used?

• Pharmaceuticals: active ingredient in oral iron deficiency treatments, in tablets, capsules and chewable dosage forms
• Nutrition: fortifies breakfast cereals, infant formula and meal replacement powders
• Animal feed: premixes and complete feeds for livestock and companion animals
• Personal care: colorant and stabilizing agent in select cosmetic formulations
• It is a fine reddish-brown powder for easy blending.
• Used in tablets, capsules, sachets and suspensions.
• Commonly used in premixes and complete feeds for pigs, poultry, ruminants, and aquatic species.
• Recommended to add it in the final mixing stage of feed production to prevent oxidation.

• For piglets and sows, the recommended dosage is 300-500 g/ton.
• For cattle and sheep, the recommended dosage is 150-250 g/ton.
• For fish, shrimp, and crab, the recommended dosage is 200-300 g/ton.
