Description

Ferric ammonium citrate (CAS 1185-57-5), also known by the E-number E381, is a water-soluble iron salt used as a bioavailable iron source and chelating agent across food, pharmaceutical, and industrial applications.

FAC delivers controlled iron supplementation and metal sequestration where inorganic iron salts would cause stability or compatibility issues. In food and beverage manufacturing, E381 functions as an iron fortification agent.

It is used in flour, cereals, and infant formula, meeting regulatory requirements for micronutrient enrichment. Pharmaceutical formulators use FAC as an iron source in oral supplements and hematinics.

This is particularly useful where solubility and tolerability profiles favor organic iron salts over sulfate alternatives. In water treatment, it acts as a coagulation aid and sequestrant for systems.

It prevents iron-related scaling and discoloration in distribution systems. Agricultural applications include its use as a foliar micronutrient supplement to correct iron deficiency in various crops.

This is effective in high-pH soils where inorganic iron becomes unavailable to plants. Ferric ammonium citrate is supplied as a brown or green powder, with color variation reflecting iron content.

Food-grade and USP/BP-compliant specifications are standard for pharmaceutical and fortification procurement. Technical-grade material is available for water treatment and agricultural use.

These materials are typically supplied in bulk quantities to meet industrial demand. The product ensures high purity and consistent performance across all specified chemical and industrial applications.
