Description

Ferrous lactate (CAS 5905-52-2), also known by its food additive designation E585, is an iron(II) salt of lactic acid used as a bioavailable iron source and color stabilizer across food, pharmaceutical, and agricultural applications.

Iron dilactate offers higher gastrointestinal tolerability compared to inorganic iron salts, making it a preferred choice for fortification and supplementation programs. In food manufacturing, it is approved for use as a color retention agent.

This additive is essential for olives, helping maintain the characteristic black color through iron-polyphenol complex formation. Pharmaceutical and nutraceutical formulators incorporate it into iron deficiency supplements like tablets and capsules.

Its relatively mild gastric profile supports patient compliance in liquid tonics. In animal feed and premix production, it functions as a bioavailable iron source for livestock and poultry nutrition programs to ensure health.

Food and beverage producers also apply it as a mineral fortification ingredient in functional drinks, infant formulas, and fortified cereals. It is supplied as a greenish-white to off-white crystalline powder for easy blending.

Standard grades include food-grade and FCC-compliant specifications, with pharmaceutical-grade material available to USP and Ph. Eur. standards. These ensure the highest purity for sensitive applications.

Bulk supply is typically offered in 25 kg bags, with documentation packages supporting regulatory submissions in food and pharma markets. This ensures full traceability and compliance with international safety requirements.
