Description

N-Propylethanolamine (CAS 16369-21-4), also referred to commercially as PMEA or mono-n-propyl monoethanolamine, is a bifunctional amino alcohol combining both amine and hydroxyl reactivity in a single molecule.

It functions as a pH buffer, corrosion inhibitor, and emulsifier across industrial and personal care formulations. In metalworking fluids and lubricant concentrates, it provides corrosion protection for ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

The chemical stabilizes oil-in-water emulsions at working concentrations. Coatings and resin systems use it as a neutralizing agent for acid-functional resins, improving dispersion stability and film formation in waterborne systems.

In adhesives and sealants, it acts as a reactive intermediate or curing modifier where controlled amine functionality is required. Personal care formulators incorporate it as a pH adjuster in emulsion-based products.

This moderate, less volatile amine is often preferred over triethanolamine in specific formulations. N-Propylethanolamine is supplied as a clear liquid, typically in drum and IBC quantities suited to industrial procurement volumes.

It is available in technical grade, which covers the majority of industrial applications in lubricants, coatings, and adhesives. Buyers sourcing for personal care applications should confirm purity specifications.

Ensure all supplier documentation meets cosmetic ingredient standards before use. This versatile chemical intermediate remains a staple for manufacturers requiring reliable pH control and emulsification properties.
