Benfotiamine

Benfotiamine (CAS 22457-89-2) is a fat-soluble, synthetic derivative of thiamine belonging to the Vitamin B1 family.

Where is Benfotiamine used?

• Pharmaceutical and nutraceutical: pharma-grade powder meeting IP, BP and USP standards
• Personal care and cosmetic: antioxidant and stabilising functionality in topical preparations
• As a Vitamin B1 source it is associated with authorised EU health claims under Regulation (EC) No 432/2012, including contributions to normal energy-yielding metabolism, nervous system, heart and psychological function.

Good to know: Unlike water-soluble thiamine salts, benfotiamine exhibits enhanced lipid permeability. Benfotiamine as a form is not listed in Annex II of Directive 2002/46/EC governing permitted vitamin forms in food supplements within the EU; formulators should carry out their own regulatory due diligence.
