Description

Trifluoroacetic anhydride (CAS 407-25-0), commonly abbreviated as TFAA, is a highly reactive acylating agent used across pharmaceutical synthesis, specialty polymer production, and chemical manufacturing.

It activates and protects functional groups in complex organic molecules, enabling reactions that would otherwise require harsher or less selective conditions for the manufacturer.

In pharmaceutical and agrochemical synthesis, TFAA introduces trifluoroacetyl groups to amines, alcohols, and other nucleophiles, supporting the production of APIs and intermediates.

Polymer and specialty materials manufacturers use it to modify surface properties and introduce fluorine content into polymer backbones, improving thermal stability and flame retardant performance.

In textile and leather processing, TFAA-based treatments contribute to surface modification and preservation chemistry, extending material durability and enhancing the quality of the finished goods.

Printing and packaging applications leverage its reactivity in the preparation of specialty coatings and functional additives where controlled acylation is required for high-performance results.

TFAA is supplied as a colorless liquid, typically in high-purity grades suited to pharmaceutical and fine chemical synthesis. Standard commercial offerings include reagent-grade and technical-grade specifications.

Purity levels are commonly at 99% or higher for synthesis-critical applications. Packaging ranges from small laboratory quantities to bulk drums for industrial procurement and large-scale operations.
