Oxamide
Description
Oxamide (CAS 471-46-5), also known as oxalamide, is the diamide form of oxalic acid used industrially as a slow-release nitrogen source and pH buffer. Its low solubility and controlled hydrolysis rate make it a functional alternative to conventional urea-based nitrogen carriers.
In agriculture, this compound is formulated into slow-release fertilizers where its gradual soil hydrolysis delivers nitrogen over extended periods. This process significantly reduces leaching losses compared to fast-release alternatives used in large-scale farming.
The pulp and paper industry uses it as a buffering agent to stabilize process pH during chemical pulping and bleaching stages. This ensures that the chemical reactions remain consistent throughout the manufacturing cycle for better paper quality.
In textile and leather processing, it supports pH regulation in dyebath and tanning formulations. This helps maintain consistent bath chemistry across production runs, preventing fluctuations that could damage delicate fabrics or hides during treatment.
Specialty resin and polymer formulators also incorporate this chemical as a stabilizer or co-reactant. It is particularly useful in applications where controlled nitrogen release or specific buffering capacity is required for the final product.
The product is supplied as a white crystalline powder in technical grade, which covers the majority of industrial and agrochemical applications. Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags, with bulk quantities available for large buyers.
Purity specifications typically range from 98% to 99%+ on a dry basis, with the technical grade being the predominant commercial form. This high level of purity ensures reliable performance in both agricultural and industrial chemical processes.
