Description

Ammonium lactate (CAS 515-98-0), also known commercially as Lac-Hydrin, is the ammonium salt of lactic acid used across food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. It functions primarily as a pH buffer, humectant, and mild preservative.

This versatile compound is highly relevant to formulators working across multiple regulated categories. In pharmaceutical topical formulations, it delivers moisturization and mild keratolytic activity for skin health.

It is a standard active in prescription and OTC dry skin lotions. Food manufacturers use it as a pH regulator and buffering agent in processed and fermented products where lactic acid alone may be too aggressive.

In personal care, it appears in body lotions, creams, and scalp treatments where controlled moisture retention is required. Mild acidification is another key benefit provided by this ingredient in cosmetic applications.

Preservation-boosting systems in cosmetic formulations also incorporate it to support antimicrobial efficacy at specific pH ranges. This ensures product stability and safety throughout the shelf life of the formulation.

Ammonium lactate is supplied as an aqueous solution, typically at 60% concentration, though other concentrations are available. Pharmaceutical-grade material is produced to USP specifications for high purity.

Food-grade product meets FCC standards to ensure safety in edible applications. Technical-grade solution is also available for industrial pH control and various non-regulated manufacturing applications.
