Acetylated lanolin alcohol
Description
Acetylated lanolin alcohol (CAS 61788-49-6) is produced by acetylating the sterol and aliphatic alcohol fractions of lanolin. This process yields a material with reduced tackiness and improved water repellency compared to standard lanolin alcohol.
In personal care and industrial markets, it functions primarily as an emollient, emulsifier, and surface conditioning agent. In cosmetic formulations, it provides skin conditioning and aids oil-in-water emulsion stability.
It is frequently used in creams, lotions, and lip products without the heavy, sticky feel associated with crude lanolin. Textile and leather processing operations use it as a softening and lubricating agent during treatment.
When applied during fiber treatment or leather finishing, it improves surface handle and flexibility. In paper manufacturing, it supports surface modification to enhance water resistance and substrate uniformity.
Personal care formulators also incorporate it into hair care products where controlled moisture retention is required. It is highly effective for improving combability and managing the texture of various hair types.
Acetylated lanolin alcohol is typically supplied as a pale yellow to amber waxy solid or semi-solid. It is available in cosmetic-grade and technical-grade specifications to meet the requirements of manufacturers.
Industrial processors utilize these grades for specific chemical applications and large-scale production. Packaging is commonly offered in drums or bulk quantities suited to industrial procurement volumes.
