Lanolin alcohol

Lanolin alcohol (CAS 8027-33-6) is a complex mixture of sterols and aliphatic alcohols derived from wool wax. Also marketed as Dusoran and Dusoline.

Where is Lanolin alcohol used?

• Personal care: emulsifier, emollient and rheology modifier
• Cosmetics: stabilizes water-in-oil emulsions in creams, lotions and ointment bases, while contributing moisturization that supports skin barrier function
• Pharmaceuticals: emulsifying and absorption-enhancing excipient in topical preparations such as medicated creams and dermatological bases
• Textile and leather processing: fiber lubricant and conditioning agent that improves softness and workability
• Coatings and adhesives: rheology modifier and plasticizing component where controlled viscosity and film flexibility are required

Good to know: Ph. Eur. and BP grades are commonly referenced for regulated applications; technical grades are offered for industrial end uses where high purity is less critical.
