Description

Terephthalaldehyde (CAS 623-27-8), also known as 1,4-Benzenedicarboxaldehyde, is a bifunctional aromatic dialdehyde used as a reactive building block and crosslinking agent across polymer chemistry and pharmaceutical synthesis.

Its two aldehyde groups enable controlled condensation and crosslinking reactions that underpin a range of advanced material and formulation processes. In polymer and materials science, it functions as a monomer for synthesizing polyimines.

It is also utilized for covalent organic frameworks and high-performance resins where precise crosslink density is required. Pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturers use it as an intermediate in active ingredient synthesis.

The compound serves as a protein crosslinker for diagnostic reagents and bioconjugation workflows. In personal care, it contributes to fragrance formulations where its aromatic aldehyde character supports specific scent profiles.

Antimicrobial and preservation applications also draw on its biocidal activity, particularly in industrial disinfection and surface treatment formulations. This versatility makes it a staple in specialty chemical manufacturing.

Terephthalaldehyde is supplied as an off-white to pale yellow crystalline solid. It is available in technical and high-purity grades, with reagent- and synthesis-grade specifications commonly offered for procurement.

Packaging ranges from kilogram quantities for laboratory and development use to bulk quantities for industrial-scale production. This ensures consistent supply for both research and large-scale manufacturing needs.
