Diethylenetriamine penta(methylene phosphonic acid) heptasodium salt (CAS 68155-78-2), commonly identified by the abbreviation DTPMP·Na7, is a high-performance phosphonate chelating agent supplied in alkaline salt form.

It functions by sequestering hardness ions and inhibiting scale formation and corrosion across industrial water systems and process fluids. In water treatment, it controls calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate.

It also manages barium sulfate scale in cooling towers, boilers, and reverse osmosis systems, even at low dosage levels. Textile and leather processors use it to deactivate metal ions that interfere with dyeing.

This ensures dyeing uniformity and bleaching efficiency. In oilfield operations, it is injected into production lines and injection water systems to prevent mineral scale deposition that reduces flow rates.

Pulp and paper manufacturers incorporate it into bleaching sequences to stabilize peroxide and prevent metal-catalyzed decomposition. DTPMP·Na7 is supplied as a clear to pale yellow aqueous solution.

The active content is typically around 40% or 50% by weight. Technical grade is the standard commercial offering, formulated specifically for industrial process applications and large-scale use.
