Bispinacolatodiborane
Description
Bispinacolatodiborane (CAS 73183-34-3), also known as B2pin2, is a diboron reagent used as a key borylation source in synthetic chemistry and pharmaceutical manufacturing. It delivers two pinacolboronate ester units in a single reagent, enabling efficient introduction of boronic ester groups into organic molecules without requiring air-sensitive handling.
In pharmaceutical synthesis, B2pin2 is the preferred reagent for palladium-catalyzed Miyaura borylation, converting aryl and vinyl halides into pinacol boronate esters. These serve as intermediates for Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling in active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) production. Specialty polymer manufacturers use it to introduce boron-functional groups.
This enables controlled crosslinking and stimuli-responsive material design. In fine chemical and agrochemical synthesis, it supports the preparation of borylated building blocks. Research-scale and contract manufacturing operations in the textile and paper sectors also employ it for surface-functionalizing agents derived from boronate chemistry.
Bispinacolatodiborane is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline solid. It is available in research quantities through to multi-kilogram lots for industrial use. Purity grades typically range from 97% to 99%+ to meet pharmaceutical intermediate and fine chemical manufacturing requirements for high-performance applications.
