Description

Monoammonium phosphate (CAS 7722-76-1), commonly known as MAP or designated E342 in food applications, is an inorganic ammonium salt used industrially as a flame retardant and pH buffering agent.

It delivers both nitrogen and phosphorus in a single compound, making it a practical input across agriculture, construction, and industrial processing. In agriculture, MAP is a high-analysis fertilizer applied directly to soil.

It can be dissolved for fertigation, supplying phosphorus and nitrogen in plant-available form. Flame retardant formulations for textiles, paper, and cellulosic materials rely on MAP to interrupt combustion at the fiber level.

This helps in meeting fire safety specifications in treated fabrics and packaging. In construction, it is incorporated into intumescent coatings and fire-retardant board treatments where controlled char formation is required.

Buffer solutions and pH adjustment processes in leather processing and industrial manufacturing also use MAP to maintain consistent process conditions. Monoammonium phosphate is supplied as a white crystalline powder or granule.

Granular forms predominate in agricultural supply chains. Standard grades include technical, food-grade, and fertilizer-grade, each carrying distinct purity and contaminant thresholds for various industrial uses.

Agricultural MAP is typically specified at 11-52 (11% N, 52% P₂O₅) and is available in bulk, supersack, and bagged formats. These options ensure flexibility for large-scale industrial and agricultural operations.
