Cashew nutshell oil
Description
Cashew nutshell oil (CAS 8007-24-7), also known commercially as cashew nutshell liquid (CNSL), is a natural phenolic oil extracted from the shell of the cashew nut. It functions as a reactive bio-based raw material and processing aid across coatings, adhesives, friction materials, and polymer systems.
In coatings and varnishes, CNSL-derived resins provide heat resistance and chemical durability, making them a preferred bio-based alternative to synthetic phenolic resins. Friction material manufacturers use it as a binder resin component where controlled thermal performance is required.
Brake pad and clutch lining producers rely on this material for its unique friction-modifying properties. In rubber compounding and tire manufacturing, it acts as a processing aid and plasticizer that improves flow without compromising cure characteristics.
Adhesive and sealant formulators use it as a reactive modifier to adjust viscosity and enhance cross-link density in phenolic and epoxy systems. This versatile oil is supplied as a dark viscous liquid in drums and IBC containers for industrial use.
Technical-grade CNSL is the standard commercial form, with natural and technical variants available. The heat-treated technical version features a different phenolic composition relevant to downstream reactivity and specific chemical synthesis.
Refined and distilled grades are available for applications requiring reduced color or controlled cardanol content. These high-purity options ensure consistency in specialized manufacturing processes where aesthetic or precise chemical parameters are critical.
The material meets rigorous industrial specifications to ensure performance in demanding environments. Our supply chain ensures that all batches adhere to strict quality control measures for moisture content, viscosity, and volatile matter.
