Denatonium saccharide
Description
Denatonium saccharide (CAS 90823-38-4), also marketed under the trade names Ro-Pel and Super Vilex, is a bittering agent recognized as one of the most intensely bitter compounds used in commercial formulations.
It is incorporated into products at trace concentrations to deter accidental ingestion, chewing, or licking by humans and animals. In personal care and cosmetics, it is added to nail-biting deterrent products.
It is also used in topical formulations where discouraging oral contact is the primary function. Agricultural and pest-control formulators use it to protect seeds, cables, and treated surfaces from animal gnawing.
This is particularly effective in rodent and wildlife deterrent applications. Household and industrial product manufacturers incorporate it into cleaning agents, antifreeze, and solvents to reduce accidental ingestion risk.
It also appears in animal repellent sprays applied to crops, fencing, and garden materials to discourage browsing by deer and rabbits. This compound is supplied as a white crystalline powder for various uses.
It is available in technical grade and in cosmetic-grade specifications suited to personal care manufacturing requirements. Packaging typically ranges from small research quantities up to bulk industrial orders.
This variety in packaging reflects the extremely low use concentrations required in finished formulations. The product maintains high stability and efficacy across a wide range of industrial and commercial applications.
