Glyceryl monocaprylate/caprate
Description
Glyceryl monocaprylate/caprate (CAS 91744-32-0) is a mixed ester of glycerol with C8 and C10 fatty acids, supplied as a mono-, di-, and triglyceride blend also recognized commercially as MCT. It functions primarily as an emulsifier, skin-conditioning agent, and solvent carrier across food, personal care, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
In cosmetic formulations, it acts as an emollient and emulsifier in creams, lotions, and cleansing products, improving skin feel and formula stability. Pharmaceutical manufacturers use it as a lipid-based carrier for poorly soluble active ingredients in soft gel capsules and oral lipid formulations.
In food and nutraceutical production, it supports fat-based delivery systems, encapsulation, and dietary supplement blends where medium-chain triglycerides are the preferred carrier oil. Coatings and adhesive formulators incorporate it as a plasticizing or dispersing component in specialty resin systems.
Glyceryl monocaprylate/caprate is supplied as a clear to pale yellow liquid at ambient temperatures. Food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade material is available, with the latter typically meeting USP or Ph. Eur. monograph requirements for medium-chain triglycerides.
Cosmetic-grade supply is also standard, sourced from both conventional and RSPO-certified palm or coconut-derived feedstocks. This versatile ingredient provides excellent oxidative stability and a low viscosity profile, making it ideal for high-performance industrial and consumer applications.
