Butylparaben

Butylparaben (CAS 94-26-8), also known as butyl parahydroxybenzoate, is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial preservative effective against bacteria, yeasts, and molds. It is one of the most potent members of the paraben family, used at low concentrations to extend shelf life across food, pharmaceutical, and personal care products.

In cosmetics and personal care, it preserves creams, lotions, and makeup formulations against microbial contamination throughout the product's shelf life. Pharmaceutical manufacturers incorporate it as a preservative in topical preparations, oral suspensions, and multi-dose injectable formulations for stability.

Food producers use it under FEMA 2203 designation to protect products such as baked goods, beverages, and flavoring systems from spoilage. It is also commonly blended with other parabens to achieve synergistic preservation across a wider microbial spectrum for industrial applications.
