Copper pyrithione
Description
Copper pyrithione (CAS 14915-37-8), also known as Copper Omadine and abbreviated as CuPT, is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial compound used across industrial and personal care markets.
It functions as a biocide and preservative, controlling bacterial, fungal, and algal growth in formulated products and treated materials. In antifouling and protective coatings, CuPT is incorporated as a biocidal active.
This prevents microbial and algal fouling on marine and architectural surfaces. Personal care formulators use it in anti-dandruff shampoos and scalp treatments as an alternative to zinc pyrithione.
It offers comparable efficacy with distinct formulation compatibility. Textile, leather, and paper manufacturers apply CuPT to impart durable antimicrobial protection to finished goods and processing substrates.
Sealants, adhesives, and elastomers intended for high-humidity or outdoor exposure are preserved against microbial degradation using CuPT at low active concentrations. It is supplied as a fine green powder.
The material features defined active content, typically at 97–98% purity for industrial applications. Technical grade is the standard commercial form, with product specifications commonly aligned to industry requirements.
Bulk quantities are available for industrial procurement, with smaller packaging options for formulation development and QA evaluation. This ensures flexibility for both large-scale production and laboratory testing.
