Description

Polymaleic acid (CAS 26099-09-2), also supplied as hydrolyzed polymaleic anhydride (HPMA) and abbreviated PMA, is a low-molecular-weight polyelectrolyte used across water treatment and industrial process chemistry.

It functions primarily as a scale inhibitor, dispersant, and corrosion inhibitor in aqueous systems where mineral deposit control is critical. In cooling water and boiler systems, PMA prevents calcium carbonate scale formation.

It also inhibits calcium sulfate and calcium phosphate scale, extending equipment service life and reducing maintenance downtime. Textile and paper processors use it as a dispersant and sequestrant to improve dye uptake.

This chemical prevents mineral interference during wet processing and ensures uniformity. In construction chemistry, it acts as a retarder and dispersant in cement and gypsum-based formulations, influencing set time and workability.

Industrial and institutional cleaning formulations incorporate PMA to sequester hardness ions and prevent redeposition of soils onto treated surfaces. This ensures high performance in various commercial cleaning applications.

Polymaleic acid is supplied as an aqueous solution, typically at 50% active content, though concentrations may vary by manufacturer and application requirement. Technical grade is the standard commercial offering.

Product specifications are defined by active content, pH, and molecular weight range. Bulk liquid supply in IBC containers or road tankers is the norm for industrial buyers seeking efficient logistics and handling.
