Description

Sulbutiamine (CAS 3286-46-2) is a synthetic, lipid-soluble derivative of thiamine (vitamin B1), developed originally in Japan as a more bioavailable form of the parent vitamin. With the molecular weight of 702.89 and the empirical formula C₃₂H₄₆N₈O₆S₂, it is structurally composed of two modified thiamine molecules joined by a disulfide bridge, which accounts for its enhanced capacity to cross lipophilic membranes compared with standard thiamine salts. In the pharmaceutical sector, sulbutiamine is recognised as an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) and is sourced to pharmaceutical-grade specifications, typically assayed at ≥99.0% purity by HPLC. Buyers should note that this form is not currently listed in Annex II of EU Directive 2002/46/EC governing food supplement source substances; regulatory due diligence is therefore required before use in European finished supplement products.

Within nutraceutical and specialist supplement manufacturing, sulbutiamine is widely incorporated into formulations targeting energy support and cognitive function. As a vitamin B1 compound, it is associated with the authorised EU health claims under Regulation (EC) No 432/2012, which recognise that vitamin B1 contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism, normal functioning of the nervous system, normal psychological function, and normal heart function. These claims apply to the vitamin B1 activity of the compound and should be interpreted accordingly. SoleChem supplies sulbutiamine in fine crystalline powder form, characterised by its off-white to pale yellow appearance and low moisture content. Material is available to pharmaceutical-grade specification, with certificates of analysis covering identity (IR, HPLC), purity, heavy metals, residual solvents, and microbiological status as standard. Custom documentation packages to support regulatory submissions are available on request.

Packaging is offered in 1 kg and 5 kg quantities for development and small-batch production runs, with 25 kg fibre drums lined with double polyethylene bags available for commercial-scale procurement. All packaging formats are supplied with full batch traceability documentation. Storage recommendations call for cool, dry, and light-protected conditions; material should be kept sealed until point of use to preserve assay integrity. Lead times and stock availability are maintained to support both spot purchasing and scheduled supply agreements. SoleChem operates within the EU distribution network and can provide import documentation, origin declarations, and material safety data sheets compliant with current GHS/CLP requirements for all shipments.
