Hydroxylamine hydrochloride
Description
Hydroxylamine hydrochloride (CAS 5470-11-1), also known as hydroxylammonium chloride, is a stable, water-soluble salt form of hydroxylamine used across pharmaceutical synthesis, polymer chemistry, and analytical applications.
It functions primarily as a reducing agent, oxime-forming reagent, and chemical intermediate in multi-step synthesis processes. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, it converts ketones and aldehydes into oximes.
This conversion is a critical step in producing active pharmaceutical ingredients and synthesis intermediates. Polymer producers use it as an antioxidant stabilizer and polymerization inhibitor to control degradation.
It is particularly effective in nylon and other engineering plastics. In biotechnology and life sciences, it serves as a selective protein-cleaving reagent for Asn-Gly bond cleavage in peptide mapping workflows.
Analytical chemists rely on it for metal ion detection and as a reducing agent in sample preparation protocols. Hydroxylamine hydrochloride is supplied as a white crystalline powder for various uses.
It is available in pharmaceutical-grade (USP/BP) specifications for regulated synthesis applications, as well as technical grade for industrial and polymer processing use.
Packaging ranges from small laboratory quantities to bulk industrial volumes, with purity levels typically at 98% or higher depending on the specific grade required for the application.
