Monoi oil
Description
Monoi oil (CAS 683748-01-8), also known as Oils, Gardenia tahitensis, is a traditional Polynesian cosmetic oil produced by macerating Tiare flowers in refined coconut oil.
In personal care manufacturing, it functions as a skin and hair conditioning agent, delivering moisturization and emollient properties to finished formulations for various consumer applications.
Monoi oil is used in hair care products, including shampoos, conditioners, and leave-in treatments, where it helps reduce moisture loss and improve manageability for the end user.
In skin care, it is incorporated into body oils, lotions, and after-sun preparations targeting hydration and skin softness. Sun care and tanning product manufacturers use it as a base or co-ingredient.
This ingredient leverages its traditional association with tropical skin care. At the food-grade level, it has limited use in specialty nutrition applications, though personal care remains the dominant market.
Monoi oil is supplied as a liquid at ambient temperatures, solidifying below approximately 24°C due to its coconut oil base. It is available in cosmetic-grade quality for industrial use.
The Appellation d'Origine (AO) certified material from French Polynesia represents the premium specification recognized by buyers. Bulk supply is typically offered in drums or intermediate bulk containers.
