Calcium fluoride

Calcium fluoride (CAS 7789-75-5), also known commercially as fluorite or CaF2, is a naturally occurring mineral salt processed for industrial use.

Where is Calcium fluoride used?

• Metallurgy and chemical manufacturing: primary fluorine source
• Steelmaking and aluminum smelting: flux that lowers the melting point of slag and improves metal flow during refining
• Optical-grade fluorite is machined into lenses, prisms, and windows for UV and infrared imaging systems
• Pulp and paper: production of hydrofluoric acid for bleaching and wood pulp processing
• Mining and mineral processing: flotation reagent for various ores
• Feedstock for fluorochemicals and fluoropolymers used in specialized coatings
