Calcium pyrophosphate
Description
Calcium pyrophosphate (CAS 7790-76-3), also known as dicalcium diphosphate and abbreviated as CPP, is an inorganic calcium salt used across food, pharmaceutical, and personal care manufacturing.
It functions primarily as an acidity regulator, buffering agent, and mild abrasive, depending on the application sector. In oral care, CPP serves as a polishing and abrasive agent in toothpaste formulations.
This material provides controlled enamel cleaning without excessive surface wear. Food manufacturers use it as an acidity regulator and leavening component in processed foods, baked goods, and dry mixes.
It is particularly useful where pH stability during processing is critical. In pharmaceutical solid dosage forms, it acts as a calcium supplement excipient and diluent in tablet manufacturing.
Personal care formulators also incorporate it into specialty powders and cleansing products where mild mechanical action is required. The material is supplied as a white, fine powder in varying particle sizes.
These distributions suit specific abrasive or blending applications. Food-grade and USP pharmaceutical-grade specifications are the most commonly traded, with technical-grade material available for industrial uses.
Bulk quantities are typically offered in multi-kilogram bags or supersacks. Smaller packaging is also available for laboratory and development-scale procurement to meet diverse manufacturing needs.
