Polysorbate 20
Description
Polysorbate 20 (CAS 9005-64-5), commercially known as Tween 20 and approved as E432 in food applications, is a nonionic surfactant derived from sorbitol and lauric acid.
It functions as an emulsifier, solubilizer, and stabilizer across food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. In food and beverage production, E432 stabilizes emulsions in baked goods and ice cream.
This ingredient prevents separation and improves texture consistency in flavor concentrates. Personal care formulators rely on Tween 20 to solubilize fragrance oils and essential oils into water-based products.
It is commonly found in toners, micellar waters, and light lotions. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, PS-20 is used to stabilize protein-based biologics and solubilize active ingredients in oral formulations.
The product is also utilized in topical formulations and household cleaning products. It serves as a low-foam wetting agent and emulsifier in various surface cleaners and industrial degreasers.
Polysorbate 20 is supplied as a viscous amber liquid. Standard grades include food-grade (FCC, E432-compliant), USP/NF, and Ph. Eur., supporting use across regulated industries.
Technical-grade material is available for industrial cleaning and non-regulated applications. This versatile chemical ensures stability and performance across a wide range of commercial and industrial sectors.
