Polysorbate 65

Polysorbate 65 (CAS 9005-71-4), also identified by its food additive designation E436, is a polyoxyethylene sorbitan triester derived from stearic acid. It functions as an emulsifier and stabilizer across food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

This versatile chemical keeps oil and water phases from separating in finished products. In food production, it stabilizes fat dispersions in ice cream and whipped toppings, improving texture and preventing ice crystal formation.

Cosmetic formulators use it to create stable oil-in-water emulsions in creams, lotions, and hair conditioners. It is often selected when a heavier, waxy emulsifier is preferred over lighter polysorbate grades.

In pharmaceutical manufacturing, it acts as a carrier and solubilizer for oil-soluble active ingredients. It is frequently utilized in topical preparations and oral dosage forms to ensure consistent delivery of actives.

Home care and industrial cleaning products use it to disperse oils and waxes into aqueous systems. This improves product homogeneity and shelf stability for a wide range of commercial cleaning solutions.
