Polysorbate 80
Description
Polysorbate 80 (CAS 9005-65-6), also identified as E433 and PS80, is a polyoxyethylene sorbitan ester derived from oleic acid. It is used as a nonionic surfactant and emulsifier across food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic manufacturing.
It stabilizes oil-in-water emulsions and solubilizes oil-soluble ingredients into aqueous systems, enabling uniform, shelf-stable formulations. In food production, E433 prevents fat separation in ice cream, whipped toppings, and baked goods.
This ingredient improves texture and extends product consistency across various applications. Pharmaceutical manufacturers rely on PS80 to solubilize active ingredients in injectable formulations, oral liquids, and topical preparations.
Consistent drug dispersion is critical in these medical applications. In cosmetics and personal care, it emulsifies creams, lotions, and serums while supporting fragrance and vitamin solubilization in water-based systems.
Agricultural formulations use it as a dispersant and wetting agent in emulsifiable concentrate pesticides. This improves spray coverage and active ingredient uptake for more effective crop protection and management.
Polysorbate 80 is supplied as an amber viscous liquid in drums, IBCs, and bulk tankers. Food-grade material is available to FCC specifications, ensuring compliance with global food safety and quality standards.
Pharmaceutical-grade supply meets USP, BP, and Ph.Eur. standards. Each grade carries distinct purity and testing requirements relevant to regulatory submissions and specific industrial manufacturing needs.
