Tetrahydrofuran
Description
Tetrahydrofuran (CAS 109-99-9), commonly known as THF or oxolane, is a cyclic ether solvent with exceptional miscibility across both polar and non-polar systems. It dissolves a broad range of polymers, resins, and active compounds.
This versatile solvent handles materials that resist other common liquids, making it a go-to choice for demanding formulation and synthesis work. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, it is used as a reaction solvent and extraction medium.
Its ability to solvate organolithium and Grignard reagents is critical to process chemistry during API synthesis. PVC adhesives and coatings rely on this chemical as the primary solvent, enabling strong substrate bonding in pipe fittings.
It is also utilized in footwear and industrial laminates. It functions as a polymerization solvent in the production of polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG), a key intermediate for spandex fibers and polyurethane elastomers.
In analytical and QC laboratories, it serves as a standard HPLC mobile phase component for separating polymers and pharmaceutical compounds. The product is supplied as a clear liquid in drums, IBCs, and bulk tanker quantities.
Anhydrous and stabilized grades are the most common commercial forms, with stabilizer-free variants available for sensitive synthesis applications. Technical and reagent-grade specifications are standard for industrial use.
HPLC-grade is available for laboratory and analytical procurement. Our material meets rigorous industry requirements to ensure consistent performance across all manufacturing and research applications.
