Tetraethylenepentamine
Description
Tetraethylenepentamine (CAS 112-57-2), commonly known as TEPA or Tetren, is a polyamine used across coatings, polymer, and textile industries as a curing agent, crosslinker, and pH modifier.
Its multiple reactive amine groups make it a functional building block for epoxy systems, chelating formulations, and specialty chemical synthesis. In epoxy coatings and adhesives, TEPA acts as a hardener.
This material crosslinks resin networks to deliver durable, chemically resistant films suited for industrial and protective coating applications. Polymer manufacturers use it as a reactive intermediate.
It is essential in producing polyamide resins and flame-retardant additives, where its nitrogen-rich structure contributes to char formation under heat exposure. In textile and paper processing, it functions well.
TEPA serves as a wet-strength resin precursor and fiber treatment agent, improving substrate durability and dye uptake. Personal care formulators incorporate it at low concentrations for pH adjustment.
This is particularly useful in rinse-off products where controlled alkalinity is required. TEPA is supplied as a viscous amber liquid, typically in drum and IBC quantities for industrial buyers.
Technical grade is the standard commercial offering, with purity specifications commonly ranging from 95% to 98% depending on the supplier. Some producers offer blended or diluted formulations.
These variations target specific epoxy curing or chelation applications. The product is handled according to strict safety protocols to ensure stability and performance in diverse manufacturing environments.
