1-Monostearin

1-Monostearin (CAS 123-94-4), commercially known as Glyceryl Monostearate or GMS, is a monoglyceride ester used across food, personal care, and industrial manufacturing as an emulsifier and stabilizer.

It enables oil and water phases to combine uniformly in formulations where phase separation would otherwise compromise product quality or shelf life. In food manufacturing, GMS is used in baked goods and margarine.

It is also used in ice cream to control fat crystallization, improve texture, and extend shelf life. Personal care formulators incorporate it into creams and lotions as an emulsifying wax that provides a stable base.

This ingredient enhances skin feel and provides a smooth consistency. In plastics processing, it functions as a lubricant and antistatic agent, reducing friction during extrusion and improving mold release in production.

Coatings and adhesive manufacturers use it as a plasticizer and dispersing aid to improve flexibility and pigment distribution in finished systems. GMS is supplied as white to off-white flakes, beads, or powder.

Food-grade material is available to FCC and E471 specifications, while cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications are served by USP and BP grades for high purity requirements.

Technical-grade product is also available for industrial polymer and coatings applications where food or pharma compliance is not required. This ensures versatility across a wide range of manufacturing sectors.
