Tocopheryl Nicotinate

Tocopheryl Nicotinate (CAS 16676-75-8) is a lipophilic ester formed by the conjugation of tocopherol and nicotinic acid, combining the antioxidant character of Vitamin E with the vasodilatory properties associated with the niacin moiety. Also listed under the INCI name Tocopheryl Nicotinate.

Where is Tocopheryl Nicotinate used?

• Personal care and cosmetics: skin-conditioning antioxidant and mild warming agent
• Scalp treatments, warming massage products and topical preparations: vasodilatory functional active for localised blood-flow stimulation
• Pharmaceutical and nutraceutical: stabilising antioxidant excipient and active form of Vitamin E in topical drug products and speciality supplement formats

Good to know: This ester form is not currently listed under Annex II of Directive 2002/46/EC for use in EU food supplements; regulatory suitability for a given market should be confirmed before formulation. Where Vitamin E activity is the claim basis, EU authorised health claims under Regulation (EC) No 432/2012 recognise that Vitamin E contributes to the normal protection of cells from oxidative stress.
