Sodium anisate

Sodium anisate (CAS 536-45-8), also known as sodium p-methoxybenzoate, is the sodium salt of anisic acid used commercially as a preservative and antimicrobial stabilizer.

Where is Sodium anisate used?

• Personal care and cosmetics: natural-origin preservative in rinse-off and leave-on products
• Food and beverage: antioxidant and shelf-life extender
• Pharmaceuticals: stabilizing agent in topical and liquid preparations
• Specialty chemicals: intermediate in synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients
• It functions by inhibiting microbial growth across a broad spectrum of formulations.

Good to know: Often combined with other mild preservatives to achieve broad-spectrum protection. A preferred alternative to more regulated synthetic preservatives, particularly where clean-label preservation is a commercial priority.
