Description

Choline chloride (CAS 67-48-1), also sold under the names Lipotril and Paresan, is a quaternary ammonium salt classified as a B-complex vitamin essential to animal metabolism. Approved as food additive E1001(iii), it functions as a nutrient supplement, humectant, and processing aid across feed, food, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. In animal feed production, it is the primary source of dietary choline for poultry, swine, and aquaculture, where deficiency directly impacts liver function and growth performance. Food and beverage manufacturers use it as a nutrient fortifier in functional foods, infant formula, and dietary supplements.

These supplements often target cognitive and metabolic health. In pharmaceutical formulations, it serves as an active ingredient in lipotropic preparations and as a buffering agent in liquid dosage forms. Personal care formulators incorporate it into moisturizing products where its hygroscopic character supports water retention. Choline chloride is supplied as a dry corn cob or silica carrier-based powder, typically containing fifty to seventy percent active content, for feed applications. It is also available as an aqueous solution, commonly seventy to seventy-five percent, for liquid feed and industrial use.

Anhydrous crystalline grades are available for pharmaceutical and food applications meeting USP and FCC specifications. These high-purity grades ensure compliance with international safety standards for human consumption and medical use. The material is highly hygroscopic and must be stored in a cool, dry environment to prevent clumping. Proper handling ensures the stability of the compound across various industrial applications, from large-scale agriculture to specialized laboratory settings.
