L-Lysine monohydrochloride
Description
L-Lysine monohydrochloride (CAS 657-27-2), commonly sourced as L-Lysine hydrochloride, is the stabilized salt form of the essential amino acid lysine. It offers improved handling and solubility over the free base form.
It functions as a nutritional supplement, feed additive, and bioactive ingredient across food, pharmaceutical, and agricultural markets. In animal feed, it corrects lysine deficiency in cereal-based diets for swine and poultry.
This directly improves feed conversion ratios and protein utilization. Food and beverage manufacturers use it to fortify protein-enriched products, meal replacements, and functional nutrition formulations where lysine is the first limiting amino acid.
Pharmaceutical formulators incorporate it as an active or excipient in tablet and oral solution manufacturing. This is particularly useful where controlled pH buffering of the final dosage form is required for stability.
In personal care, it appears in topical formulations and hair care products as a conditioning agent and moisture-retention support ingredient. L-Lysine hydrochloride is supplied as a white crystalline powder.
The material is typically provided at 98–101% purity on a dry basis. Standard grades include feed-grade, food-grade (FCC), USP, and Ph. Eur., with pharmaceutical grades subject to tighter impurity controls.
Bulk supply is available in bags and supersacks to meet industrial demands. Feed-grade material is also offered in granular form for improved flowability and easier handling during the manufacturing process.
