1-Naphthaleneacetic acid

1-Naphthaleneacetic acid (CAS 86-87-3), abbreviated NAA and also known as 1-naphthylacetic acid, is a synthetic auxin used in commercial agriculture to regulate plant growth and development.

Where is 1-Naphthaleneacetic acid used?

• Fruit production: prevents pre-harvest drop in apples and pears
• Propagation: promotes adventitious root formation on cuttings of ornamental, horticultural and forestry stock
• Turf and nursery: stimulates uniform rooting in transplanted sod and container-grown plants
• At low concentrations it acts as a fruit-thinning agent in apple orchards.
• For rice, wheat and corn, applied by moistening the seeds to promote root growth, allowing young plants to grow stronger and increasing yield.

Formulation notes

• Dissolved using 1N NaOH, ethanol, methanol or isopropyl alcohol as solvents and water as diluent.
• For vegetables, applied by moistening crops in a 50-500 ppm solution to promote and accelerate rooting.
• For fruit trees, applied at 5-50 ppm during flowering.
• For melons, applied at 10-30 ppm during flowering to prevent premature flowers.

• None of the Swiss-authorized products listed are approved for non-professional use.
